If you’re not already an iMGA agent and need an excellent Renters, Homeowners, Dwelling, Vacant and MobileHome program to offer your clients, contact us today.

The Longhorn Dwelling product makes quoting any Texas dwelling policy very easy. Whether your client needs a TDP1, TDP1 Plus, or TDP3 you can quickly get a quote using the same easy process.

To ensure you get our best possible price for your client, though, be sure to add the details on any dwelling improvements. A dwelling built in 1950 whose heating was completely updated in 2005 will get a much better price than the same dwelling with no updates.

With the ability to cover properties of to 100 acres, any protection class, up to $550,000 value and a monthly pay option, the Longhorn dwelling program can meet many of your clients’ needs quickly and easily.

Learn more about the Longhorn dwelling program.

We are amused by large insurers spending their time and money advertising how claims caused by mayhem are covered by their policies. The ads truly are funny, but we laugh because we have yet to see a scenario advertised that would not be covered by most any auto policy.  So, we’re left asking “where’s the beef”?

Well, we have been listening to our agents, and based on your input we put some serious beef into rental dwelling policies. Our new Longhorn Dwelling program includes coverages and options that have all but disappeared from the rest of the market especially when combined into a single policy.

Here just a few of these additional coverages that are now available to your clients.

Available on any new Longhorn Dwelling policy:

  • TDP1 and TDP3 Form options
  • $500 deductible option
  • Up to 2 owner-occupied dwellings on a single policy
  • Mortgagee or Direct Bill options, with up to 9 monthly installments

Available on all Longhorn Non-Admitted Dwelling policies:

  • Up to 9 tenant-occupied dwellings on a single policy
  • No deductible for Fire and Lightning claims
  • Optional deductibles up to 5%
  • Automatic hail resistive roof credits without documentation
  • Corporate named insureds, partnerships, and LLC’s eligible
  • A new TDP1 Plus package option that includes replacement cost and additional extended dwelling coverages
  • Optional extended vacancy clause – up to 3 months’ vacancy coverage without cancellation or rewrite
  • Optional liability and medical payments coverage available on properties up to 100 acres
  • Slide, diving board and trampoline liability buyback options available
  • Owner occupied mobiles homes eligible (depending on age)
  • Rewarding new credits:
    • Senior/Retiree
    • Age of Roof
    • Age of Dwelling
    • Fire and Burglar Protective Devices

Available only on Longhorn TDP1 policies:

  • Coverage for tenant-occupied mobile homes

Available only on Longhorn TDP1 Plus and TDP3 policies:

  • Vandalism & Malicious Mischief automatically included
  • Limited foundation and water back up automatically included
  • Limited mold coverage automatically included

Of course we can’t possibly list all the options or terms and conditions here, so be sure to quote a Longhorn Dwelling program policy as soon as possible and see for yourself just how much beef is really there.

Most owner-occupied Longhorn Dwelling policies will continue to be issued through San Antonio Indemnity Company. All other Longhorn Dwelling policies will be underwritten by Lloyd’s of London which is non-admitted in the State of Texas.  However, Lloyd’s of London is rated “A” by A.M. Best, and known the world over for their security and innovative insurance products.  For example, they insured Betty Grable’s legs and Bruce Springsteen’s vocal cords.  They also insure tens of thousands of Texas houses and have been doing business since about 1688, so they’re very solid. We’ll automatically include the appropriate notices with any renewals switched from SAIC to Lloyds, of course, so you wont’ have to do anything special with those.

We thank you for the opportunity to continue to provide you and your clients leading insurance products for rental properties.  We hope that we may serve you for years to come.  We promise to continue to innovate and improve our product offerings to earn that privilege.  We’re putting the beef back into insurance!

So please quote a Texas Longhorn TDP and let us know how we are doing.

At iMGA we are dedicated to offering Texas property owners coverage options they cannot get anywhere else.

We’re proud to continue that tradition today by announcing that our Texas Elite homeowners insurance product now offers:

A $500 deductible option!

Companies all over Texas, large and small, are requiring 1% minimum deductibles and rolling insureds to those deductibles without offering insureds any choice in the matter.

IMGA’s Texas Elite policies in all of the state except Tier 1 and Tier 2 will have an option that is particularly helpful for those on a fixed income or tight budget who want to minimize the out of pocket cost of any claim they might have in the future.

If you are an independent agent who’d like to work with a market that understands Texas and isn’t afraid to be different, complete the form on this page.

Texas Wildfire September 6, 2011

In Texas wildfires in just the last week:

  • At least two people have perished.
  • At least 1,626 homes have been destroyed.
  • The Texas Forest Service has had to respond to 176 fires covering over 126,800 acres.

Our top priority is to ensure every claim we receive is handled quickly so that your clients can begin to rebuild their lives as soon as possible.

Together We Can Do Even More Though

iMGA will donate $10 to the central Texas chapter of the Red Cross for every new policy you write with us during the month of September. Simply issue the policy and make sure the down payment is applied between now and the end of the month to have your effort add $10 to the total.

In addition we will match all direct donations by any of our agents to the American Red Cross of Central Texas (up to $500 total) and we will make sure that our collective donations are earmarked for wildfire disaster relief.

Thank you very much for helping the fire victims in any way that you can.

Please help us make a big difference in as many lives as possible.

***UPDATE:

To those of our agents who have already made a donation and emailed us the receipt – THANK YOU!!!! To those who have not yet, there is still plenty of time – just make your donation and email us a copy of the receipt.

The following is from the great folks at the Texas Forest Service:

More than 3 million acres of Texas land and hundreds of homes have burned since wildfire season started on Nov. 15, 2010. You can make a big difference, though, in several ways:

Don’t Cause a Fire

Most Texas counties are experiencing severe drought. Especially this weekend, remember that just a little spark can start a massive wildfire.

The Texas Forest Service
continues to urge caution when it comes to any outdoor activity that can cause a spark – from outdoor grilling or building a campfire to parking a car on dry grass or shooting celebratory fireworks in approved areas. More than 90 percent of Texas wildfires are caused by humans, with the most frequent cause being debris burning.

While we’re facing these drought conditions, don’t use fireworks and don’t burn debris.

Learn about Restoration

The Texas Forest Service performs many valuable services including seminars such as these which are given throughout the state. Keep an eye on their website for seminars in your area.

For example, landowners in Hardin and Tyler counties who have been affected by recent wildfires are invited to a workshop July 7 to learn how to restore their land in the aftermath of a disaster.

“We want to let citizens know what resources are available to them as they recover from these tragic wildfires,” said Carrie Smith, a forester with Texas Forest Service.

The informational “After the Fire” workshop will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at the Wildwood Meeting Hall, 2201 Button Willow, Wildwood, Texas.

Representatives from partnering agencies – Texas Forest Service, Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department, Big Thicket National Park Service, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Texas AgriLife Extension Service and The Campbell Group – will be on hand to help answer questions.

Topics include planting, arson awareness, assistance from NRCS and “Firewise” safety principles. Similar workshops are being held in other areas around the state as well. See https://texasforestservice.tamu.edu/main/default.aspx for more details.

Donate to the Cause

You can help the volunteer fire departments that have been battling the devastating 2011 wildfires by donating directly to the volunteer fire department of your choice.

The great folks at the Texas Forest Service have established the VFD Emergency Assistance Fund to help volunteer fire departments. Donations are tax deductible and can be earmarked for particular departments, counties or regions. ALL proceeds (yes, the full 100 percent of every donation) will be distributed to volunteer fire departments via grants for firefighting expenses.

Checks should be made payable to Texas Forest Service. Indicate the specific department, region or county department that you’d like to support on the check.

Donations can be mailed to:

Mike Gibbs, our Director of Personal Lines, has prepared this comparison of the coverage differences between the Texas and ISO Homeowners policy forms. The comparison is available in four different versions:

  1. Homeowners Comparison Presentation with Notes
  2. Homeowners Comparison Detail with Notes
  3. Homeowners Property Coverage Comparison Table
  4. Homeowners Liability Coverage Comparison Table

Clearly it’s important to work with professionals who really understand Texas property to avoid potential pitfalls that can come from the many differences between the policies. Fortunately we happen to have those. 🙂

Credit scoring is here to stay in insurance, and for good reason:

For both personal auto liability and homeowners, credit score was related to claim experience even after considering other commonly used rating variables.

Typically, the claim experience for the 10 percent of policyholders with the worst credit scores was 1.5 to 2 times greater than that of the 10 percent of policyholders with the best credit scores. The magnitude of the variation… remains unchanged even after considering other commonly used rating variables. (TDI Supplemental Study on Credit and Insurance, 2005, p.2)

But that doesn’t mean it’s the right thing for all clients or all cases, and collecting credit information to provide a quote is definitely not always easy. At iMGA we’re all about EASY, so instead of relying heavily on credit – we offer its use as just one option.

Programs that Don’t Use Credit At All

At iMGA all of our admitted, San Antonio Indemnity Company-underwritten programs rate without using credit scoring:

  • MobileHome
  • TDP1/TDP3
  • HOA/HOA+
  • Vacant

Programs with Optional Credit Scoring

The Texas Elite Non-Admitted HOA/HOA+/HOB program offers the option of using credit scoring in rating. If you collect the insured’s social security number we will order an insurance credit score.

Be careful with this one, though – you have the option to not order credit score, but if you don’t the odds are very high that your insured will miss out on what could be a substantial discount. On one policy recently the difference was over $647, and we’ve seen it reach even higher.

Programs with Mandatory Credit Scoring

We don’t have any of those!

So choose your program and choose your option – credit or not. Either way, we make it EASY.

iMGA is a proud member of both the Texas Professional Insurance Agents and the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas.

Both organizations have conferences coming up soon, and so we thought this would be a good time to see how many of our agents are members.

UPDATE (as of 5/13/2011 at 3:10CST): 89.0% of respondents are IIAT members, 12.3% are PIA members, 5.5% will be attending the PIA convention, and 26.0% will be attending the IIAT Convention.
